Yandards' 16VG60 - Running Report 23 Jul 15
Supercharged replied to Yandards's topic in Members Gallery
Sheeet - was the the box you bought or one you rebuilt?? -
I've not run heated jets for years - just buy 2 non heated ones from VW - £5 the pair As long as you use a decent screenwash then they'll never freeze apart from in snow when the heated ones won't be any better
-
Did you clear the codes and rescan then again after a drive? If they come back I'd expect water damage on the ABS ECU with that many...
-
Just buy new - very cheap part from VW or Eurocarparts etc
-
Nah - not on Paint - you just need a good wax like Dodo juice... I do use rain X on all the lights and numberplates though - seems to make things stay clean for longer!
-
Both snapped!?!
-
i've now done over 80k miles on VAG ones and they are just starting to show signs of cracking, no way Febi ones would have lasted as well!
-
That would be great!
-
Yeah - same make but part quality is significantly different although the Valeo boxed ones look ok... The Febi boxed ones are also a Valeo part but these are really dodgy looking! The part is actually a MK4 / TT item now which you need if not running the recall / bypass valves
-
VW - not worth taking any chances with a part like this!

2001 Audi A6 saloon mate - bullet proof reliable and don't rust! -
urgent overheating query.. Possible causes?

All you need are 2 water pipes from a MK1 GTi (£20 from VW / TPS) and a shorter oil filter thread from the same car - sorted! -

So that fan - if it's only single speed then out of the 3 wires, 2 should be connected together so it runs max whenever it's on - it;s blowing the right way I assume also? Water on all VW's should sit at 90c (half way), Oil is meant to be roughly 100c but G60's do run very hot so 110 on normal running is not unusual. -

Blimey - as someone has already said I would check the fan wiring to check it's correct and also suspect any non genuine parts but sounds like it's HG issue or similar as you say... I assume when you refilled you were using the correct 40% ish ratio of G12++ to water? Running just water will obviously cause issues. Running without a stat won't have helped at all - fueling must have been way off and I doubt the fan was kicking in as it should even if the switch was working fine - this has probably slow-cooked the engine taking the heater matrix with it :( -

I don't actually remember typing that... bit of a worry at 11.21 am! -
You sure it's not broken? usually the plastic breaks hence VW extending the warranty to 7 years on regulators. Fairly easy to change, need good set of torx sockets and be careful with the door speaker
-
still available new from Classic Parts
-
Correct - just order the parts from VW
-
It's an imperial size - think plumbing! 1" 1/8th IIRC All the oil filter housing and sensor fittings on VW's are also imperial
-
I'd also check you have the correct bulbs fitted in the correct points (all labled on the plastic bulb holder)

What, when Adrian Newey gets offered a better paid job?

WHAT!!!!! That bolt holds the steering lock to the housing - you can't use cable ties and it will fail an MOT due to lateral play!! ---------- Post added at 11:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:32 AM ---------- EDIT - Just re-read the original post - no need to remove the lock housing to change the ignition switch! It simply plugs into the back and is held in place by a small screw
-
Always VW - cheap on exchange. Pattern castings often don't fit on 16V's because of the metal cambelt cover
-
New ones still available via Classic Parts!
