  1. I've driven quite a few recently as well, though most have been Petrol and I'm not particularly worried about economy when I'm not paying for it! I was surprisingly impressed by the Suzuki Swift actually!
  2. Its still going strong then Martin! I know what you're saying and I may well look at something a bit older. I'm not fussed about power though tbh, as I'm constantly trying to eek out an extra MPG! It would be nice to have a few mod cons though, and don't really want to have to worry about fixing things over the next 3 years. Thats all the car would be likely to last before it gets moved on due to the mileage and things needing replacing. The Passat had an awful lot of advisories at the last MOT, and though the plan was to replace bits here and there, I couldn't be arsed and it'll cost about 1k in parts to sort. Just seems like dead money considering its only worth that anyway. Maybe not this colour combo, but this is what has drawn me so far. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201810071271899?make=RENAULT&postcode=ex168ag&sort=sponsored&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&price-to=6000&year-from=2013&radius=100&model=CLIO&fuel-type=Diesel&advertising-location=at_cars&page=1
  3. I think a Yaris or Up may be a little too small to be comfortable on long drives...... I'm only 5.10" but I need to extend my legs a bit when driving. I'll look into the Ibiza a bit more, and I've considered a Fabia and even a Mini One D. They just don't seem to offer as good value for money as the French stuff though
  4. Yes it's true. I need some evidence as to why I shouldn't, so I'll explain. My daily commute is 172 miles, so I'll be putting 25-30k miles on a car each year. I need something newer, and as fuel is currently costing me about £400 per month in the Passat, coupled with £240 per year tax, it needs to be small and economical. I sit at 70 with the cruise control on for most of the journey, so it doesn't need to be big engined as most of the time I'm on the inside lane anyway! I have 15 mins of country roads though so nothing too wallowy. The amount of mileage I'll be doing means I don't want to spend a great deal so low mileage isn't a necessity (it'll depreciate before my eyes anyway) though the lower the better for obvious reasons. My budget is 4-5k, and probably diesel as it actually works in my favour due to the distances I'll be covering. Happy to be told otherwise though. All I can currently find that offers good value and great economy are; Pug 208, Citroen DS3, or Renault Clios. I'm looking at economy figures online though, so has anyone got any real world experience on economy please? It has to be comfortable, have DAB radio, AC, and cuise control - those are my only stipulations. Any help or advice appreciated!
  5. Nice bit of fabrication work there Graham, it's coming along nicely! :thumbleft:
  6. Hi Tris, welcome to the forum! It's not been done to my knowledge by anyone on the forum, and only done a couple of times on UK cars. Its probably worth a Google, but I'm not sure if those that have done it have really documented it online. Look forward to seeing you progress with it though! :thumbleft:
  7. I'm not sure on the 9A but the VR6 fans run on for some time after switch off. How long does it stay on for roughly? The fan is regulated by water temp though, and idle is by the oil temp via the ecu so won't be linked. Idle issues can be a plethora different things so worth doing a search to see if others have experienced similar symptoms, and go from there.
  8. Hi, and welcome to the forum! It's a bit quiet here at the moment whilst most people's cars are tucked up for the winter, but we're all still browsing and occasionally posting updates on work etc, so if you have any question, or want to share your journey with your car please feel free to post away. :thumbleft:
  9. Jamie is selling/has sold his Red VR6 after chopping it in for a C4S http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?84376-Jamie-s-Flash-Red-VR6-Woken-From-Hibernation
  10. I can't remember names, but I seem to recall a fair few have. It seems a natural progression tbh, and I don't think any have regretted it.
  11. Mrinjector has good reviews for cleaning them and you'll get a report with flow rates pre and post cleaning. Aside from standard tools to remove the fuel rail, you should be fine but just be careful not to wriggle them too much or you'll break the plastic part of the tip. Just disconnect the battery and connection to the rail, and the vapour tube to the inlet and you should be fine mate. You can do it in a normal ultrasonic cleaner for jewelery, but you obviously won't know what the pattern and flow are like before and after
  12. I did it out of curiosity a few years back, and was offered £150 for my Corrado!
  13. Just posting on social media full stop would arouse suspicion from me!
  14. It is a lot but you can get excellent results if applied by a good pro. You can add wax on top as a sacrificial layer as well so it'll last longer, but most of them will last a year or so. With yours living outside I'd be on the fence if I'm honest mate. A good machine and protection by a pro, then regular long lasting waxes by yourself may be better value
  15. Nope. They're one piece with the plastic and rubber moulded together
  16. The big brands offer top up type spray bottles Rob. I've used GTechniq on my old Golf and it was great - though I sold it about 4 months later. I've also used Carpro Cquartz and I don't know if it was an issue with application as it kind of misted up, but I wasn't that impressed with the finish and it didn't seem to last that well either. Are you planning to do it yourself or get a pro to apply it Rob?
  17. There is a guide to making your own loom on this site too. Have a search through Google and it should come up.
  18. Once the key gets to position 1 it should energise the relay, which will hold open the current path to the pump. The fact it's only getting voltage at position 2 (when cranking) suggest a wiring issue rather than the switch. Turn the key with your finger on the relay, you should feel it engage if it's working correctly. If so, your issue lies between relay and pump so you've narrowed it down a little bit
  19. Haha, all good thanks. So are you planning a recommission to drive it again, or thinking of moving it on finally?
  20. Still looks great Jamie! Not a bad result really. Do you still have the 997 was it? Edit; Just went back, do you still have the C4S?
  21. The show wasn't much cop. Low budget and poorly edited, but not a bad concept and he seemed genuinely impressed with the Corrado. Hard to beat an Elise if you're after a fun (if impractical) weekend car though. Car looked very tidy and standard with low mileage, but being white with cloth interior I can't see it ever selling for that price.
  22. Tons of options. Mocal Oil cooler, fan upgrade, rad upgrade, lower temp thermostat, removing the cover parts on the grilles that have them, wing vents (Merc Sprinter) etc etc..... You can go nuts if you want, but the cars are now at the point where standard is looked upon as best. As long as your cooling system is working correctly with water level sitting around 90, and oil around 100-115 and the fans coming on in stages at the correct temp then there shouldn't be any problems.
