  1. I paid £1250 for mine in pretty similar condition, though it was 3 years ago.
  2. That after 30 seconds is a function of an aftermarket alarm. The problem with cutting out a second after starring is common on the factory fitted immobiliser. Two separate things by the sound of it, but not starting after 30 seconds of being unlocked is correct and what is supposed to happen on some clifford alarms, and probably others too.
  3. If it's starting for a second then cutting out, that's a sure sign of the immobiliser cutting in. Assuming it has an immobiliser.......... If so, remove the control module and check the contacts. Give them a small squirt with wd40 and see how it goes from there.
  4. N01396111 or N0139612 - oval head panel screw; 3,9X13 411945279 - plastic washer 3 required of each.
  5. Jacking points, sills - especially the leading edge and under where the front wing folds down underneath and bolts on. The lip on the rear arches where it joins the sill, and fuel filler neck. Oh, and windscreen, rear number plate light (raise the spoiler to check properly) and under the rear screen seal. This list isn't extensive though.............
  6. I absolutely love the Jenson too Rob, one of the very select older British cars I'd love to own. Some of the Ford prices are absolutely insane though! Great cars back in the day don't get me wrong, but you could get so much more desirable cars for similar money now. I couldn't imagine an ST or RS ever reaching this sort of level of appreciation.........
  7. Congrats mate, knew it would only likely be something simple that may trip you up. :thumbleft:
  8. Take off the speedo binnacle and you should be able to get your hand in there. You'll be able to see it down by the light switch anyway.
  9. Behind the dash, underneath the headlight switch and sits in the same bracket as the spoiler control module.
  10. Or ignition switch. If it happens again, try moving the key whilst it turned to see if it catches. If so, a new one from VW is £35. I wouldn't bother with a cheaper alternative, I used a meyle one first and it did similar from new, albeit not as bad as the old original.
  11. It's massively frustrating and I feel your pain. The fact that people don't even have the common decency to leave a note with their details infuriates me. I just try to park in the furthest spot possible and park 'poorly' which most of the time puts people off parking next to me. I can't bring myself to be a complete selfish git though and park over two spots.......well, most of the time anyway!
  12. I got those linked in. Bump stops are OK but the dust covers were too big to even fit on them, and just flopped about. I'd bought a set for a valver by mistake previously so used the ones that came with those. Luckily they were perfect.
  13. Skoda wheels may look OK. They're similar to the Montreal II alloys on the Golf mk4, that some have used on the Rado. Have a look on Google images as it might show a pic (on my phone otherwise I'd link it in for you if I found one). Not all that keen on those BBS if I'm honest. You could ask someone to photoshop them onto your car if you post up a side on pic though mate.
  14. Ah right, fair enough mate.
  15. Can you see it running down the membrane? If not it's likely coming through the join in the door aperture seal.
  16. Rob, do the water test with the door card off. Put some talc around the door shuts and those bits on the door itself too as it may help identify exactly where the water is tracking.
  17. Didn't know the existed like that.
  18. Maybe you should, as according to your tyre life expectations you wrote above, they're still over half way through their life expectancy........
  19. According to laws of physics. All rubber compounds will deteriorate and harden over time, especially if left standing. Generally tyres go - and quite rapidly after 5 years, which is why you get cracking between tread after a while. Not what you want on track tyres certainly!
  20. Just done starter motor, pulled the mk4 Golf one out and the copper braid had snapped. Old one back in and fired straight up. I'll try to repair the mk4 one and get it back in eventually, but at least it's running nicely again.
  21. Look forward to seeing the steering wheel mate, its a job I'd like to do at some point but I'm envisaging a pretty hefty price tag. I thought about getting in on the group buy a while ago for the NOS ones, but couldn't bring myself to pay what they were going for. I wouldn't mind replacing my door pulls, gear knob and handbrake handle either at some point.

    vag scanners

Do you mean the little handheld ebay jobbies, or Rosstech / VCDS? The handheld scanners are ok but don't give a very thorough breakdown of faults. Rosstech is a licensed distributor of VCDS and is excellent. It'll cost a few hundred pound new, or probably lees than £100 for a used one if you can find one and is well worth the money.
  23. Sure it'll be fine Rob, the amount of work you've done the last few months should ensure that! What do you have left to paint of the interior? The seat is pretty easy to strip down, the leather is just held in place with teeth at the bottom and the bolsters just sit on top of the seat frame. Its so satisfying when the whole interior is in and looking great though mate! :thumbleft:
  24. LC6U is classic green, dragon green is LC6P.
  25. My experience of tyres is pretty limited, having only taken an active interest in the last few years but this is what I've had. Toyo t1r - decent dry, poor wet, very soft and lasted about 8k miles. Falken ziez or whatever they're called - lasted quite well but grip was noticeably poor over old pretty old and slightly cracked Avons that were on before. Avons - (not the old ones) were average (not in a bad way) in all respects. Bridgestone re002 which I have on now are by far and away the best gripping in all conditions, and reportedly last well too, although they've only been on about 500 miles. All of them are pretty low priced, although the Bridgestone a little more, but still quite cheap compared to a lot of others. I use blackcircles to buy and they've consistently been the cheapest I've found including fitting online. Can't fault them to be honest and I had to rearrange a fitting date once due to finding a Crack in one of the wheels, and the customer service was very good. :thumbleft:
