Having read the above, I decided to check. The DVLA say it is illegal to drive a car after it has failed a MOT unless you are taking it for a retest or taking it to be repaired. I think even then it would be illegal to drive a car if it was dangerous, i.e. ok to drive it had failed the emissions test, but not is the brakes were faulty. It is all here on the DVLA website link below: https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/after-the-test

I have had a bad experience with the replacement LED lights. I changed the boot light bulb as I thought the LED would be significantly brighter. Unfortunately it only offered a feeble light that in my option was worse that the original. I'm sure there are reputable suppliers out there, but you need to be careful and check the specs.

They do come up for sale occasionally on eBay. I paid about £35 for mine.

Great to see the programme and thanks for the Youtube links. Programs like this are great for raising the Corrado's profile. Hopefully, this result in prices firming further and greater availability of spare parts. It must be difficult for the producers to pitch the programme at the right level to satisfy the general viewer and keep us enthusiasts happy. As an one of the latter, I found it a little disappointing that they felt it necessary to depress the price of the spare parts. £400 for a leather interior seems very good value especially as there was no mention of further repairs to the drivers seat. Also, I think they claimed that they paid £50 for an alloy wheel refurbishment, again very good value for a decent job. Generally given the lack of maintenance of the car over the past few years I was surprised that some cosmetic work to the body work was not required. Also, there was no mention of any work to the suspension.

If yours is a later car I fairly sure that you can plug into the diagnostic port. My local garage (not a VW specialist) has the equipment and traced the fault to the brake pedal position sensor in the master cylinder. Like yours this was an intermittent fault, but showed 50% of the time.

I wonder if it is resisted or whether a deal is struck of eBay? Still it is very encouraging that someone is prepared to offer nearly £8k.

I thought you were using the 'twilight' as the donor car?

One bid at £6k and the reserve has not been met.

I stumbled across this earlier. But short in the detail!!

I expect VW is the tip of the iceberg and many other manufacturers will have similar issues. It reminds me of my old MGB, when that went for its MOT my garage tuned it to meet the emissions requirements. Once it had passed they re-tuned it so it could actually be driven in the real world.

I was away last week and the place we stayed in had the benefit of Sky. I managed to catch a couple of episodes of Wheeler Dealers including the MK1 XR2 and a Porsche 911. The basic idea of the programme appears to fix up a tired example and then sell at a profit. However as far as I could tell they did not include any labour charges in their calculations, which in the case of the XR2 included extensive bodywork repairs and the removal of the engine. IMO they also undersold the cars at the end of the programme. I will be very interested to see how much they paid for their Corrado and what they spent on it. Just need to find someone with Sky!!

I agree it shouldn't be an issue on our pampered cars that mostly do a very low annual mileage. Hopefully there will be a warning of impending failure - increased noise or a rattle - and then I can get the repairs done. As others have said whilst the engine is out a new clutch would be sensible and no doubt countless other pipes and connections as well. Much as I love my Corrado I'm not looking to carry out unnecessary work.

Obviously the body work is important on a 20+ year old car. A decent respray will be in region of £2k and costs will rise if rusty patches have to be cut out. The base if the front wings, the rear wheel arches and the area around the fuel filler seem to be particularly vulnerable.

Have a look at the Corrado Buying Guide on this forum. I found it very useful when I went to view my car. http://wiki.the-corrado.net/the_corrado_buying_guide_checklist.html Both the G60 and VR6 have their pro and cons. At the end of the day it is down to your personally preference. Both the cars you are planning to view will be 20+ years old and are high mileage. Only buy if you are satisfied with the condition and buy the best you can afford.

Welcome. Some of the options you quoted don't sound right for a 1995 Corrado. If the seats are worn it could be a challenge to find the correct fabric. It might be easier to find a reasonable leather interior and get that repaired.
-
...and you would have to question the mechanicals as well, body and the interior have not been maintained it would suggest that the servicing has been scrimped.

This is from Sniff Petrol. I've always found it amusing the number of car adverts that claim just a re-gas is required. My favorite Corrado one is Sunroof not working, a common Corrado problem!!

I'm surprised no one on here has been to see the car.

Great news. I'll have a drink to that this evening!! -
I guess if you can run a 16v as a daily driver a VR6 shouldn't be anymore of a challenge. As with any older car I have found it is the ancillaries that cause the problems and then the inevitable delays in obtaining or fixing parts that are NLA from VW. A back up vehicle for these occasions is useful. Another issue of using an older vehicle in the winter is that cracks in the underseal will let damp and salt in and cause rot.

Hi Chris, Just wondered if you have the peace of tape that you use to lift the rear hump for access the first aid kit? I'm working my way through the C, but should really be more organised and give you a list of the missing parts. Thanks Mark -
