I've got a Hornet Cat1 fitted and never had a false alarm or any other problems with it in 5 years of having it fitted. It has 2 immobilisers and total closure. To be honest I just took what was recommended to me by the alarm fitter. There were other options available at the time but I cant remember what they were. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

Extensive checking! What about the rotor arm on the distributor itself? On my mk2 16v I did similar checks with voltage etc but found the rotor arm was a touch loose so when it span it didn't hit the contacts in the cap. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

I've got a bag full of the tumblers but wanting to keep the original keys if I can. I would just like a spare key really, everything is working fine but I can tell the key itself looks less sharp than it would have done so not ideal for copying. Cheers Crasher - TPS - I don't think they deal with the public? Good move though if I can get them to help me out. I will try my local dealer with the part no too.

Hi, Anyone know where I can get a replacement key? My key is worn and I only have 1 key. I am fairly certain it is the original key to the car so wondering if a key can be made to vin number? I'm not really that clued up in the area but could it be with hybrids their ICE components never get to peak operating temperature around town, and they are also heavier vehicles, so when the ICE part is operated they are always at their most inefficient state and produce more VOCs in normal usage/test conditions? My understand is once an engine is warmed up and at peak efficiency it is pretty clean on balance. A lot of it has to be on usage though and as you say if people don't bother charging them then that is not going to help.

Now you say that, my understanding is also you pay to drive it. Still a crappy cost on top of everything else. I watched a documentary the other day on modern hybrids emitting more harmful emissions than diesel cars - a step backward. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCti-qQFHTA I guess the push to "greener" cars has more to do with box ticking (capitalism, KPIs and media bites) than saving the planet. The WEF wants to us to do away with personal transport altogether and in towns and cities and that does mean getting rid of personal transport and motivating people to use public transport. Arguably, and taking my car enthusiast hat off, that is better for everyone in built up areas. However the application is broad a far; a 30 year old Corrado for example is going to be used in exactly the same way as a 40 year old classic car so should be licenced in such a way that they are treated the same in these ULEZ type zones imo.

Well the extension for me was a reason to move a while ago. I used to live in Potters Bar which isn't in ULEZ but right on the edge of the proposed expansion. It is a shame the scheme doesn't take account of cars "living in" the zone and rather just blanket accounts for all old cars whether they are driving in from outside or living in. I don't agree with charging cars "living in" as it's dictating what you can and can't do and in reality those cars "living in" are used so infrequently it does not make a jot of difference to the environment other than increase revenues and control what people can and can't do. I moved to rural area and rarely see people. Bliss.

Sorry to hear, I posted and saw on your FB group. We will keep an eye out, especially for the specialist parts I know you don't necessarily want to mention but if they come to market it will be obvious. Was the car stolen and driven or taken on a flat bed?

That is absolute crap - especially the damage around the bit that goes under the light. Disgusted that people supply stuff like this. Have you tried places like mk2 spares or Dubstock on faceache? Mk2 spares is probably a better bet. I could take a drive up there to collect a panel cut, it is quite some way so I would need to plan into my diary. Alternatively could try the clubgti forum? Were you keen on a genuine panel? I cant picture which bit you're repairing - I've got a mk2 16v as well and need to repair to bottom part of the rear valance corners and noted heritage have some repair section for this. I treated myself to the audioscapes! It is sad to see Keyo leave and I've chatted to him loads offline and he is also a fountain of knowledge - I did try to get him to stay - but life is short and I totally get his reasons to move on. His car is to a super high standard and is one of, if not the best Corrados out there. I just hope he finds an enthusiast buyer that will cherish the car and appreciate how much car they are getting for the money - money litreally cannot buy that stuff anymore. The value it is at right now is criminal and that perhaps is one of Corrado's general problems; we dig deep to make our cars the best we can, parts are a tough business to find and we take the rough with the smooth, but when the chips are down to see a value that doesn't reflect the car can be soul destroying. I did see him write somewhere he might get a 16v rado one day for kicks and giggles - the early cars are best looking stock corrados imo - one day so maybe it is not over forever 😄

Its a good phrase and only one I came across the other day! I should get it printed and put up in the garage to rationalise things when the chips are down. The whole of idea of it never being finished was the attraction. I think also, for me, I simply have too many old VWs and not enough time (or funds) to get them where I want them. The mk2 16v needs to stay but the mk3 16v I need to let go of, trouble is I've gone mad on that one too - massive chassis and floor pan refurb 90% done, more so than I have done on corrado - but it is low miles (78k), 3 door, red and should sell cleanly on the market. I bought a miltek (rare now), recaro edition interior and some nice 16in BBS but will refrain fitting them and sell it as a stock 16v. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

Cheers Dox, concluding the same myself these days. Im invested too deep in time, money and jobs done vs its ultimate value on the market. I still enjoy both the car and looking at it so I made my bed when I set out so had may as well lie in it so to speak. It isnt perfect, stonechip is too thick/wrong paint on that side in the pic, the car is high miles (155k) so anything I have done isn't going to net it a strong marketable value because of mileage. I did know that when I set out but thought I'd never sell it. I need to stop chasing perfection and just enjoy it for what it is. Shines nice in the sun too. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

Top work JF and eveything is immaculate! Nice colour on the inlet - a little bit different to silver and actaully more oem looking. Loving the wooden supports under each wheel - I have a set of quick jacks which are easy enough to use (with extra timber to spread the load) but gets in the way and otherwise use axle stands, however those wooden supports are safe and not in the way + I guess if you did want to get a wheel off you can just support that corner on an axle stand. Good solution.

Oh I see i haven't looked at my mk2 yet there. I have heard it is only adjustable on one side too. Do you have to take the outer track rod from the knuckle to adjust then or is there movement on the outer to set tracking? Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

Yes life is a bit better again now, my own Golfs have suffered with time spent on the Corrado though! The inner track rod sits inside a ball and socket on the inboard side so does twist on adjusting - the person doing the tracking needs to either spray some lube at the gaitor or go gentle. That is shame but at least it sounds like you'll get closure on that car. Pleased to see you're still going to get one and I will keep an eye I've been through pain of resto and bodywork etc and would recommend avoiding all that hassle and buying a good one straight off. Im not normally someone to worry about mileage (155k on mine) but concede in the UK market people would sooner by a ropey 100k car over a well sorted to 155k, so if I were doing it again I'd be aiming for sub 120k miles, great body and make sure it had leather (cost me a £grand to make that happen which on top of bodywork and engine work makes for an expensive game and a car that will never be worth its cost..). The engine can be sorted at say Stealth racing but the rest of the mechanicals (apart from ABS) is boggo mk3 golf so anyone can do it. All the best and keep us posted on outcomes of the old car.
