  1. if you have a budget for coilovers then knock a good £400 off it for labour, alignment, top mounts all round and at least wishbone and rear axle bushes - whats left is what you can spend on the coilovers. if you are considering V3s though then perhaps budget isnt such an issue and then it comes down to what you use the car for. V1s make lots of people happy as you've seen, but if you're very particular about the car's set up then going up a level or two may be worth it. its just between you and your wallet at the end of the day, but its still preferable to err on the side of overkill for a little extra money than have to do it again later.

    Which SPAL Fan

you need sucker fans and 6.5 and 11 is plenty for standard - call crazydave at dg autotech for some of his brackets also, http://www.revotecdirect.co.uk/ was recommended for fans a while ago so i got a discount set up for us. give them a ring and see what price they can do when you've chosen sizes

    ET 53 Wheels

personally i dont know why there are such thick adaptors being used with these wheels. they do look good in the for sale advert but as you will be able to work out, the ET with the adaptors will be 18 at the front and 8 at the back. normal ET for 7in wheels would be 37/38 so these will be 20-30mm further out in the arches than usual. personally i cant see there's any chance of these not rubbing on a lowered car unless there has been some amount of arch work done.
  4. when i got a new Cat1 and Andy installed it he went for a 7928 iirc. that might be discontinued now (it was about 3 years ago) possibly hence his recommendation for something different. think i paid around £300 (fitted at his house) but i got free sandwiches for lunch while i was there waiting while he installed it! £345 for a newer system a couple of years later seems ok to me
  5. Compomotive just told me that an MO1571 weighs 7.8kg, and that a BBS Solitude weighs 8.3kg. They now have a circuit spec 15in wheel that weighs less than 6.5kg - the CXR1571.
  6. Yes, otherwise known as BJV Engineering (http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk) - they are very well thought of by lots of people, and very good value as you can see. Was very happy with my set.
  7. if you buy new then you really need to get some laminex on them to prevent all but the worst of the impacts. i know that thats not much comfort now, it wasnt when i introduced mine to armco either.. :(
  8. hi there, my car has schrick + 268s + BMC + standard exhaust. these are the best run it ever did standard (a bit unusual) vs the best run its done since the mods: power 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC02905.JPG[/attachment:309wlit4] torque DSC02906.JPG[/attachment:309wlit4] hope they're useful..
  9. just one interesting thing i've discovered today - i know there is meant to be a certain +/- tolerance on widths for a given tyre size but was puzzled to see that the the tread width on a 205/50/15 R888 is noticably wider than on a 205/40/17! i thought at least the same brand and model would have some consistency! its obviously hard to measure these things, but even taking account of the fact that the 15s are 6.5in wide and the 17s are 7.5in, its still visible that the 15in tyres are about 215mm wide vs the 17s being a more accurate 205ish mm. having a mixed metric/imperial system for measuring tyre sizes is dumb enough without these tolerances being so far out!
  10. interesting.. must er, tell a friend not to do that so much..
  11. not looking bad from the screengrab i took from the video :salute: PR3.jpg[/attachment:19cy90xf]
  12. you're better off deciding what you want or at least a shortlist, as different places will have a different selection. once you've narrowed it down you can see whats cheaper (and there are plenty of places already mentioned by people on here too..)
  13. a couple of runs up a drag strip isnt going to do any tyres any harm - just get the ones you really want now, hopefully the better you get the better grip they'll have anyway..
  14. the valver looks great, not really a fan of early cars or that colour, but it really comes out well! shame you've sold it! :) but i agree, unless you do mega-miles, theres no way a 2nd car pays for itself really.. turbo it has to be!
  15. so you didnt actually make sure they were 5x100??

    Tyre sizes

If you want to use 195s you don't need different wheels, the speedo won't be significantly out.. Valvers used 195s anyway as they were lighter/slower. The only questions are whether you still feel happy with a slightly narrower contact patch and whether, if you bin it, you feel confident the insurance company won't pull you up for non-standard tyres.
  17. its a bit low for the Isle of Man roads from what i heard ;)
  18. not sure a blown 3.1 would be exactly bombproof would it? if you want to turbo it then i'd imagine the advice would be to stay as close to standard capacity as possible but with arp head and conrod bolts and probably some forged pistons. am not an expert though
  19. mines done that a few times chasing the rev counter :) nice problem to have i say, yours sounds like a lot of fun!
  20. EBK 698 280 G/J3 RE5 on this page. or just talk to G-werks since they were who it was through
  21. was going to say it depends where you're based, pretty sure its £90 or more up here so if you've got other options i'd try them!
  22. tasty, cant wait to see more! where was this storage in Berkshire btw and how much was it?
